What is not included on this site
and why
'Map History' is concerned with anything and everything to do with non-current maps. So, what does it intentionally exclude?
Collaborating on the 'Map History' site
- Historical maps, i.e. modern reconstructions of past situations - but see Related Subjects: Historical Maps
- Information and links, however interesting, that deal with other subjects - but see
Related Subjects and Special Topics with
Relevance to Early Maps
- Very brief texts (usually less than two screens), superficial or inaccurate
information, and obvious propaganda - none of which seems worth the user's time
- Image sites that contain less than four maps, unless they are special in some way,
e.g. a wall-map
- The wilder shores of fantasy, particularly sites associated with Piri Reis
- Highly commercial sites
- Sites created by and for their designer, often using Flash, and sometimes making a PR
statement on behalf of a government department. However, if there is useful
buried information a link will be provided, normally with a health warning
- Links proposed on the basis of reciprocity or even with the carrot of supposed
income. No money is made from this site (although see the
Acknowledgements page for a note of the help received) and many suggested links are ignored.
What is included is there because of merit and relevance
