H-Net Reviews
"The Reviews archive is separated into annual volumes [starting in 1993]. Each H-Net
discussion network has its own review editor. Once posted to individual H-Net networks,
reviews are posted to H-Review and archived on this site.
H-Net Reviews bring a new dimension to the world of academic publishing. Our reviews are
published online via discussion networks and the H-Net web site. This permits our reviews
to reach scholars with a speed unmatched in any other medium. It also makes a new kind of
interactivity possible, as reviewers, authors and readers engage in discussions of the
reviews online. Through the power of e-mail and the web H-Net has helped pioneer online
scholarly reviewing."

Online Reviews Index {Sadly this site is no longer maintained, however part of this note may still
be useful}. "The index aims to provide links to reviews and conference reports published in
history e-journals or distributed by mailing lists. At the moment, it covers links to about
15,500 reviews". Click on 'Search' and then check 'Online Reviews Index'. Try searching for
cartographic or map history. This picks up a few online reviews in the subject. The
'over 100' sources are listed, and include (among general sites): EH.net book reviews, the
eHistory bulletin, Essays in history, H-Net reviews in the humanities & social sciences,

Mapforum (Specialist
Antique Map Magazine)
Issues 1-15 (1999-2002) were online, and some included book
reviews. In 2004, MapForum became a quarterly printed journal
Newsletter of the California Map Society
Since December 2003, the full
text of each Newsletter, including the reviews, is included on the Society's website [later available only to members]
Terrae Incognitae Select an annual issue; the reviews are listed for
each. Since this is the journal for the Society for the History of Discoveries, only a
minority are directly concerned with the history of cartography
In addition, entering author/title details (plus 'review') into a Google search will
produce other "reviews", though some will, in fact, be publisher's puff or customers'
comments added to bookselling sites
