August 29-2 September - Paris. LIBER Paris 2006. 'Les documents cartographiques imprimés et numériques : accès et conservation / Printed and digital cartographic materials : access and preservation', at the Bibliothèque nationale de France.

August 30-1 September - London. Royal Geographical Society (with the Institute of British Geographers), annual conference, 'Global social justice and environmental sustainability'. This includes a session, 'Rethinking Maps'. 'Non-progressive histories of cartography' is mentioned'. Deadline for Call for Papers: 20 January 2006.

September 4-7 - Keele. Society of Cartographers 42nd Annual Summer School at Keele University, Staffordshire, UK, including some history of cartography elements.

November 3-4 - Chapel Hill, North Carolina. A conference, 'Maps for the New Nation: Mapping and Cartography of the United States, 1776-1860', organized by the William P. Cumming Map Society, at the Wilson Library, University of North Carolina, sponsored by the North Carolina Collection.

November 17 - Paris. Annual colloquium of the Histoire de la cartographie commission of the Comité français de cartographie, 'De Cassini aux dernières réalisations de l'IGN: 250 ans de cartes topographiques' (celebrating the 250th anniversary of publication of the first sheet of the great Cassini map).

November 24 - Cavalaire, near Toulon. A full-day workshop, 'Atelier Histoire et mémoire du territoire consacré à la cartographie littorale', at the Médiathèque, as a homage to Pierre and Myriem Foncin. See announcement and programme .
